2015 Â鶹´«Ã½AV Golf Classic Wrap-up

The 40th annual stroke-play Â鶹´«Ã½AV Classic golf tournament was held at Detroit Country Club in Detroit Lakes, Minn. June 13, 2015. The annual CAC four-person scramble was held the day before at Fair Hills Golf & RV Resort. The Friday scramble raised $3,200 for the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Comet Athletic Club. The Saturday medal play tourney raised $3,300 for the scholarships to be distributed through the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Foundation. See the photos below.

Thanks to the First and Farmers Bank (Tom Capouch) of Portland and Mayville and the Goose River Bank (Ernie Strube) of Mayville, Hatton, and Hillsboro for providing the prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin, etc. and to Mark Dakken for coordinating this.

Also, thanks to Jim Hedstrom of American Family Insurance, detroit Lakes for creating the database and providing the address labels for this mailing. Jim has done this for several years.

Changes for 2016

After much thought and consideration, we have decided to move the Â鶹´«Ã½AV 2016 Saturday Golf Classic from the Detroit Country Club to the Forest Hills Golf Course. The decision was based on:

  • The difference in cost, thus allowing for more scholarships
  • Consolidating the two sites to one to encourage more golfers to participate
  • The wonderful cooperation of the Forest Hills staff
  • A 10 a.m. shotgun start at Forest Hills

Date Change

2-web.jpgThe 2016 Â鶹´«Ã½AV Golf Classic will be the third weekend in June, or one week later than usual. The Forest Hills Golf Course is not available on the second weekend, so the dates for next year will be Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18, 2015. We are announcing this now so you are able to clear these dates for next year.

Same Format

Friday, June 17 will still be a four-person scramble with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Saturday, June 18 will still be medal play, using the same handicap system as the previous 40 years. This also will have a 10 a.m. shotgun start.

Friday Fund-Raising Event

This event was previously held at 6:30 p.m. It will now be at 3:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Golf Course. This will give the Friday golfers the opportunity to participate in this fun event. Plus, those who play only on Saturday can attend and still have their evening free.

2:30 p.m. - Presentation of prizes for scramble golfers

3:30 p.m. - Scholarship fund-raising event. Be sure to get your group together in advance.
