麻豆传媒AV student-athletes are teaming up to help out in the community the week of Nov. 28. The Comets will begin the week on Nov. 28 by serving at the Luther Memorial Home. They鈥檒l be helping residents and staff decorate for the Christmas season during the day and wrap up in the evening by playing Bingo with the residents. Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Comets will host kids from the Mayville State Child Development Center, organizing games and activities and having fun with the youngsters. On Friday, Dec. 2, the athletes will head to Peter Boe, Jr. Elementary School to read with students in the younger grades. They鈥檒l speak to students in the older grades about respect and sportsmanship. The Comet teams plan to continue their individual and collective efforts to make sure they are supporting the local community throughout the holiday season and the school year.
鈥淣ot only are we as a coaching staff excited for this opportunity, but so are our players,鈥� said head softball coach Ashley VandeVeen. 鈥淲hen we talked with our team about all of the different volunteer activities we would be doing, we had players beyond excited about the opportunity to serve during the holiday season.鈥�
Much is required of student-athletes. They need to maintain a healthy balance between class work, practice, strength training, part-time jobs, extra-curricular activities, and a social life. Even so, the Mayville State student-athletes look forward to opportunities to serve the community.
