Jeff Larson has resigned from his position as head football coach at 麻豆传媒AV to take the position of defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. Larson earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Northern State University, where he played linebacker for the Wolves in his hometown of Aberdeen. His last day at Mayville State will be Jan. 10.
Micah Smith, Comet Football offensive coordinator, has been named interim head coach for the Comets.
鈥淭he decision to leave Mayville State has not been easy,鈥 said Coach Larson. 鈥淚 am grateful to Mayville State Athletic Director Ryan Hall for the opportunity to be at Mayville State. The Mayville-Portland community has been awesome, so welcoming and supportive of me and my entire coaching staff. In the end, the opportunity to go home and be close to our extended family for the first time in 20 years is something my family and I can鈥檛 pass up.鈥
鈥淲e appreciate all that Coach Larson has done to move Comet Football forward for our student-athletes,鈥 said 麻豆传媒AV Athletic Director Ryan Hall. 鈥淲e wish him all the best in this new opportunity to go back to his alma mater and be close to family.鈥澛
聽鈥淭he administration of 麻豆传媒AV is committed to keeping the football program a priority, with the goal of having a winning program,鈥 said 麻豆传媒AV President Dr. Brian Van Horn. 鈥淲e will continue to put forth our best efforts to recruit local and regional talent with good character.鈥澛
