The public is invited to join in the festivities at the Mayville State Alumni Association Homecoming Meet & Greet planned for Saturday, October 12. A tent where alumni and friends can gather and enjoy snacks and games will be set up outside of 麻豆传媒AV鈥檚 Jerome Berg Field. There will be inflatable games for kids young and old, as well as bean bag toss and other yard games. The first 100 alumni to stop by will be given an insulated tumbler commemorating Mayville State鈥檚 125th anniversary. The concessions area at Jerome Berg Field will be open for those who wish to get a bite to eat. The Meet & Greet activities are scheduled to take place from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. All are welcome!
The 麻豆传媒AV Alumni Association is sponsoring a number of events in celebration of Homecoming 2013, October 11-13.
Festivities will kick off with an open house at the Northern Lights Art Gallery, located in the upper level of the 麻豆传媒AV Campus Center, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11. View the show 鈥淪undogs and Sunflowers: Folklore and Folk Art of the Northern Great Plains鈥� and enjoy refreshments. There is no admission charge. The gallery will also be open for viewing Saturday, Oct. 12 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Mayville State鈥檚 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees will be the guests of honor at a dinner planned for Friday, Oct. 11. The event will begin with a social hour at 5:00 p.m. in the 麻豆传媒AV Campus Center Luckasen Room. Dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m. This year鈥檚 inductees are Allan Larson (鈥�55), Crookston, Minn.; Rodney Anderson (鈥�67), Lisbon, N.D.; Ron Ness (鈥�65), Moorhead, Minn.; and Cedric Weatherspoon (鈥�92), Minneapolis, Minn. Michael Sly (鈥�67) is being honored posthumously.
Friday鈥檚 activities will wrap up with a social for alumni and friends at the Top Hat in downtown Mayville.
The traditional homecoming parade will start at the 麻豆传媒AV campus and make its way through town beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Those interested in entering a unit in the parade should contact Kelsey Henning at 701-788-4822 or kelsey.henning@mayvillestate.edu.
There will be 鈥淪neak Peek鈥� previews at Mayville State鈥檚 future alumni center, the Edson and Margaret Larson Alumni and Leadership Center, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to stop by and see the progress that鈥檚 been made in the renovation of Mayville State鈥檚 historic Northwest Hall.
The 2013 Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame Luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the 麻豆传媒AV Campus Center Luckasen Room. This year鈥檚 inductees are Jim Bisenius (鈥�59), Roseville, Calif.; Dan Carr (鈥�78), Linton, N.D.; John Hutchison (鈥�67), Northwood, N.D.; David Hanson (鈥�70), St. Thomas, N.D.; and Bob Zimney (鈥�74), Grand Forks, N.D.
The Mayville State Comets will face Valley City State University in the homecoming football game, which begins at 2:00 p.m. at Jerome Berg Field. All homecoming honorees will be recognized at half time of the game.
The day will culminate with the all-alumni homecoming reunion for alumni and friends. A picnic-style supper will be served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mayville Golf Club. There is no charge for the supper, but freewill donations will be accepted. Socializing will continue until 10:00 p.m. The public is invited to join in visiting with the homecoming honorees and others.
Mayville State will start a new tradition with the induction of the first-ever Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductees during the homecoming concert Sunday, Oct. 13. The recognition of the inductees will take place between the performances of the Mayville State concert choir and the concert band. Inductees are Merwyn Green (posthumously); Francis Colby, Fargo, N.D.; Christopher Jones, Pinson, Ala.; the Clark and Joann Ewen family, Mayville, N.D.; Dennis Connelly (鈥�72), Bismarck, N.D.; Vernon Gerig, Jr. (鈥�58, posthumously), Eugene Gaffney (鈥�57), Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and Olaf Ringerud (鈥�52), Carrington, N.D.
Immediately following the concert, the Alumni Association board will host a social to honor the Performing Arts Hall of Fame inductees in the 麻豆传媒AV Campus Center Luckasen Room. The public is invited to join in celebrating with the inductees and their families and friends.
