Fund-Raiser to Benefit Popiela

Members of the Â鶹´«Ã½AV men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball teams will sponsor a fund-raiser to benefit Sandy Popiela, who has been diagnosed with cancer, on Thursday, Nov. 21. The Comets women’s and men’s basketball teams will host Finlandia University at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse that evening. A hot dog bar will begin at 5:00 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted. Game time for the women is 5:30 p.m., and the men’s game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
There will also be fund-raising activities at half-time of both the men’s and women’s games. In addition, veterans will be honored at half time of the men’s game.
Sandy Popiela, who is employed in the Dining Services Snack Bar at Â鶹´«Ã½AV, has begun treatment for cancer in her lungs, brain, lymph nodes, and ribs. She will begin extensive chemotherapy treatment in the upcoming weeks.
